Well, we’re back to drought conditions, not that it fazes the daylilies much, but it does limit what i can dig this late in the season.
Above my very late bed continues to over-perform. There a few very lates left
This weekend is the last weekend I’ll be open for walk-in sales. It’s been a long hot summer and I need a break.
And I will not be open Labor Day Monday.
But I will still be doing mail order through September at least.

| LAST CHANCE FOR LANDSCAPE MIX
Each fall I clear out beds that have extra or duplicate colors and types. This year is no exception. I’ll have a really interesting mix available this year. The plants come unlabelled, but are an interesting mix of colors and bloom times. This is a great way to fill in bare spots, plant hard to manage banks or just to add to the selection of daylilies you grow.
Minimum order of 10 plants, with generous bonuses given!

| Lst week I said I wasn’t so fond of the larger Sunflowers, this week I’ve changed my mind. As a single plant is a stunning showpiece in itself. Towering to 10 feet. They are the dominant flower of the landscape! |

| My Dahlias are quite something too. I grew these from seed 2 years ago and have dug and overwintered the tubers in my walk-in basement. The mass of varied colors is just stunning. I got the seeds from Baker Creek Seeds |

| This is the time of year, I start collecting seeds. I’ll post more on this in a future newsletter. But in simple terms, I just use a paper bag and write what I’ve collected on the bag and then store inside in a cool dry place.
In this picture on the left you can see Heliopsis. There are still flowers (yellow) but seedheads as well (brown with dried petals). I’ll pull the whole seedhead off and put a dozen or so in a paper bag. Each seedhead contains scores of seeds, so that’ll be plenty.
On the right is Anise-Hyssop (Agastache), these also have blooms and seedheads. The purple and still blooming, but you can see some seedheads turning brown, these I’ll strip off into a bag as well. |
