Hot, hot, hot. Not that bothers the daylilies, but it does me.

Most of these pictures were taken around 8:30 pm last night as it was finally cool enough to venture outside.

There is a smattering of color all throughout the field with thousands of scapes and buds ready to burst!

This is always an exciting time, as there is so much energy contained in the daylilies ready to burst forth!

HAPPY ALMOST 4TH OF JULY

We will be closed July 4-5 (Saturday-Sunday) and then opening July 11 for peak season (Wednesday-Sunday 10-5pm).

July 5th and other days, the garden will be open for viewing.

I’ve still got plenty of free color catalogs for your gardening friends and they make a nice house warming gift. Just send an email!

Make no mistake, I love tall daylilies. I love the form of the clumps, the dramatic architectural appearence of the scapes and of course the wonderful variation of forms of the blooms

This one is Olallie Susie Maddern

H. fulva and Stella D’Oro are two good season markers. Stella D’Oro begins blooming at the beginning of the early season, and H. fulva (roadside orange daylily), begins blooming at the beginning of early-mid season. So right now here in Vermont we are just a bit into the early-mid season.

Olallie Mr Bridge, is one of my favorite smaller size daylilies. Just beginning, now it is just covered with buds. A massive bloom show is on the horizon. It’s also an incredibly fast increaser, I had only a few small clumps 2 years ago, now they’re huge.

Olallie Artley, is my favorite evening daylily. It stays open way into the evening. and the pale yellow blooms, make for a wonderful moon garden effect!

My favorite type of gardening, serediptious. Here Filapendula ulmaria add color and layered affect to one of my daylily beds. The Filapendula are all volunteers.

I had a minor scare this morning. I left a basement door open overnight and Dante got out while I was sleeping, into a major thunderstorm. He showed up in time for breakfast, had a meal and promptly lay down on my bed to nap. You can see he’s clearly annoyed to be bothered.
