It’s been a crazy spring, with more snow flurries and cold down to 24f.

Luckily as always the daylilies are unfazed and growing well.

We will start shipping this Monday (4/27).

As I mentioned in the last newsletter, Southern and Western states will be first priority. Then mid Atlantic, mid West and East Coast other than the northern tier states.

Of course if there are special requests for shipping timing and such email me

Above is an example of plants washed and ready to be packed and shipped.

Each customer has color coded tags for ease of sorting, and tags include customer name and cultivar name.

These tags will last for years when buried in the ground, for  backup identification.

The new website is working perfectly! No issues found and orders have been coming through seemlessly.

And at this point everybody should have gotten a 2026 catalog. If you are still waiting or know someone that would like one let me know.

These daylily clumps are old hybrids I created years ago and are now happily growing under my bamboo. I can’t help but wonder, as daylilies originated from Asia, that this would be a natural habitat for them?

They seem very happy and I think the Bamboo leaves make a nice natural mulch.

This is a H. fulva type (either H. fulva or H. fulva ‘Kwanso’). You can see the difference in growth pattern, as they have a more loose spreading habit. In some cases this is nice, but in other cases they are just another spreading weed.

I’ve started all my 2025 seeds for 2026. I got to the seeds late and as daylilies are wont to do, they began growing. I was in fact amazed at how much they had grown.

This mass of mess are daylily seeds mixed with some chaff from the seed pods. As you can see there is some mold and such. I never worry about that, and it never seems to effect the seedlings.

In fact my theory is that as there can be issues with daylily rot (not that I’ve ever experienced).

This selects out the rot prone seeds/seedlings

Here is a good example of how variable the germination rate of daylilies can be. Some are far along, other barely sprouted.

And here the whole complicated set up for starting seeds. A plate to sort them, a flat of weed free soil and a Sharpie for labelling. That’s it!

The main take away here for folks is, growing daylilies from seed is incredibly easy and the daylily seeds are very forgiving. Everyone should give it a try. Who knows what magic you’ll create!

I trapped Dante in the greenhouse a few days ago, by keeping the doors closed. I think you can see by his expression he wasn’t overly happy about it. And to demonstrate his distaste he lay on my 2025 daylily seedlings
