Arlow Stout is considered by many to be the father of the modern daylily. He was one of the first to hybridize various species to achieve different colors besides what was represented in the wild. He was also the first to write a book on daylilies. Written in the 1930's, there are reprints that are easy to find and full of fascinating information.
